Haute couture is a wearable art form and some fashion designers can have an impact on our society’s heritage. The most luxurious of materials meet high quality of craftsmanship, as we learn about this bespoke art. First, we are introduced to the subject of haute couture by Melanie Trumpett, a business innovation strategist in the fashion and retail sector. What exactly is haute couture and where does it come from? We then meet with inspiring entrepreneur Cinthya Chalifoux, an outspoken artist who has travelled to Paris, NYC and London to learn from the best in her craft. Finally, we were lucky to visit the Balenciaga exhibition at the McCord Museum with Cynthia Cooper, the Head, Collections and Research Curator, Dress, Fashion and Textiles. She explains to us the relevance of some designers and how they enrich our cultural heritage.
