The Coloured Women’s Club was the most prominent organization formed during the Black women’s movement in the US. The Montreal chapter was the first CWC in Canada. It was founded in 1902 by seven women who moved here with their husbands who worked on the railroad. “We’ve helped the homeless, single mothers, and helped with the emotional needs of the community. Now we focus on education and all money goes to scholarships for young black youth,” says Rachel Salmon, the interim director and Montreal Billboard’s guest this week.
